What are you seeing across the healthcare industry when it comes to treating black men and the disparities that often exist?

Updated: Mar 19

I think it's very interesting what we're seeing in terms of the healthcare industry in the treatment of black men in general, and also for urologic diseases like prostate cancer. I think, unfortunately, black men are being left behind. With advances in our field, unfortunately, disparities tend to increase. We've seen some merging of the lines with screening for prostate cancer in the past two decades or so, particularly with PSA screening, but we've also seen recommendations that suggest PSA screening should not be done. I think, unfortunately, in my practical experience, I've seen many men, particularly of African American descent, present with more advanced diseases in recent years. And so I'm very concerned about that. So I do think that what I'm witnessing at least from my firsthand experience, is that there's a great need to continue to address these problems.
