Program Details

The goal is to expand participation from underrepresented groups in cancer research both as physicians and clinical trial coordinators. The Clinical Research Mentorship Program is supported by the Transdisciplinary Prostate Cancer Consortium, Clark Atlanta University, and the Ambassador Program.

The Comprehensive Clinical Research Mentorship Training Program is a two-part initiative:

Track One is an immersive experience designed for physicians and study coordinators centered on mentor-mentee relationships in a blend of in- person and virtual meetings, training modules through KnowRx,NMA, and individualized and group sessions.

Participants engage in networking opportunities, receive Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification, and utilize cutting edge platforms such as Enterakt for an enhanced learning experience.

The goal is to improve the quality and reliability of clinical research through strong mentorship and team based learning.

Track Two is for both graduate and undergraduate students where students gain exposure to clinical trials, data collection, patient recruitment, and research analysis while also exploring topics such as health disparities and patient care.

This mode of study includes clinical research training modules, workshops on ethics and research methodology, and mentorship from the program coordinators.  Career development opportunities such as internships and resume building are also highlighted.

The experience concludes with students presenting their work in an annual conference where they also have an opportunity to network with industry professionals.

The Clinical Research Mentorship Program offers undergraduate and graduate students hands-on experience in cancer research through a mix of virtual and in-person opportunities. Participants gain exposure to clinical trials, data collection, patient recruitment, and research analysis, while exploring key topics such as health disparities and patient care.

Students will complete essential clinical research training modules, attend workshops on ethics, data management, and research methodology, and receive mentorship from experienced clinical coordinators. Opportunities for internships, shadowing, and community engagement are available, helping students understand the impact of clinical trials and promote health equity.

The program also includes career development support—such as resume building and networking—and culminates in an annual conference where students present their work and connect with professionals.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to increase African American representation in cancer research, both as physicians and clinical trial coordinators, and is supported by partnerships with the Transdisciplinary Prostate Cancer Consortium, CAU, and the Ambassador Program.
